Planning to buy a car? Choose a Hybrid Car

With greenhouse gas emissions from automobiles, worsening global warming around the world, it is essential for every one of us to explore the possibilities of cutting these emissions, in the interest of our society.

We have plenty of options to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and one such option is to choose a ‘hybrid car’, the next time, when you decide to buy a car. Hybrid cars, which are also known as ‘Petroleum – Electric Hybrid Cars’ or ‘Hybrid Electric Vehicles’, use a ‘Rechargeable Energy Storage System’ and a fueled propulsion power source for vehicle propulsion. They run on diesel or petrol or biofuels, but they are more energy efficient than normal cars.

Almost all passenger car manufactures around the world have started introducing many new versions of hybrid cars in the market. Moreover, in order to promote the usage of Hybrid cars, countries like United States, have announced many incentives, like higher tax credits and exemptions to the buyers of these vehicles. States like California, have taken the lead by extending incentives to the buyers of hybrid cars, in the form of - cut in annual registration fees, excise duties and free parking to the hybrid vehicles in public places.

These cars are extremely eco-friendly, as their emissions are much lower than ordinary petrol or diesel cars. Benefits of choosing a hybrid car over a normal car are,

The engine life is much longer in Hybrid cars are their gas engine undergo less wear and tear compared to the engines of a normal diesel or petrol cars

Hybrid cars use a new technology called ‘Regenerative Braking System’, which helps in improving the life of their brakes

Hybrid cars are a better choice to battery powered cars (which are considered to be the most eco-friendly of all types of cars) as there is no need to recharge the batteries often. Moreover, battery powered cars cannot be used for traveling long distances unlike hybrid cars.

Hybrid cars produce less noise and do not cause noise pollution

Hybrid cars can help in controlling air pollution as their emissions are far less when compared to normal cars

Many people believe that ‘Hybrid cars’ are lot heavier than normal cars, since they use two –energy systems, which might ultimately affect the mileage of the car. In contrary to this belief the internal-combustion engine used in hybrid cars is much smaller, lighter, and is more efficient than the engines used in normal cars.

We should understand that global warming cannot be tackled only by our governments or with their energy policies. We should do our bit in minimizing the effects of global warming, if we wish to leave a habitable planet for our next generations. Electric- powered cars have many negatives and hydrogen- powered cars will take some time to hit our markets and so the best option we have today, to play a part in controlling greenhouse gas emissions, is to choose a hybrid car over other cars in future.

Apart from being eco-friendly, hybrid cars can help us to save a lot of money, spent on fuels, as they consume 50% less fuel when compared to normal cars and at the same time as efficient as normal cars. They might replace normal diesel or petrol cars in future, as their features are much better than the ones in normal cars.
