Excess Weight Raises Women’s Health Risk
22/Sep/2006: The health complications and risk of extremely obese women may have been underestimated Researchers at the University of Pittsburg have reported to the Journal of the American Medical Association that obese women have a greater risk of suffering from coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, hypertension, diabetes and even death.
There are 3 categories of obesity.
The background information of the study indicates that obesity category 1 is where the body mass index (BMI) is of 30 – 34.9; BMI 35 – 39.9 for obesity category 2 and BMI greater than 40 is obesity category 3. Categories 2 and 3 indicate severe obesity and have become increasingly common in the United States. The study also confirms that the more obese the woman the higher the health risk.
It is vital to know the degree of excess weight as it helps women understand the weight related health risks. It is the harsh truth that the likelihood of fatality in extremely obese women is much higher than women in other weight categories.
