Mother Earth travelling back to dino times!
08/Sep/2006: The more fossil fuels we burn, the more carbon dioxide gets pumped into our atmosphere. Scientists claim that the heat-trapping CO2 could result in temperatures rising by as much as 2-6 degrees by 2100.
Global temperatures will be higher than for up to 10 years and CO2 levels at the highest levels for 24 million years; translating into the fact that we maybe walking straight into the temperatures last witnessed in the dinosaur era.
This could also mean a mass extinction, as most species have never experienced such temperatures – as these conditions have not been around for a several million years.
Climate-triggered fungal pathogen outbreaks have already led to the extinction of more than one percent of the amphibian species.
Experts also cite that the expected changes could happen at a faster rate than ever before in evolution.
