Death of a river!
09/Sep/2006: The quality of potable water in Manila, the capital city of Philippines, is not suited for drinking and a swig of it sure makes the person suffer from serious gastrointestinal diseases for a long time.
With the deterioration in quality, fears are expressed whether the water is even worthwhile for other purposes in households. The industries let out their wastes into the Pasig and this pollutes the river to a large extent. Added to this, people living in the shanties alongside use the river to ease themselves and throw dirt into it, making the river an open sewerage.
This is causing severe water-borne diseases among the residents of this modern, bursting city.
