SA Invests R9-billion In Renewable energy
30/Aug/2006: South africa has signed a memorandum of understanding with three companies providing renewable energy and resources for generation.
The total deal is worth R9-billion. The first project that these companies will start with is a 400 Megawatt Powerplant. This plant will be based on wind energy.
The Indian company Enercon will setup a wind farm on the coast region to provide the electricity. The current capacity of local power generation is about 610 MW which will be increaed to 10000 MW within 10 years with the help of investments and superior technologies of power generation.
The other companies along with Enercon which are bidding for projects are Lereko Energy Consortium, which will provide wind turbines, solar heating and electricity generation from waste, Thermo-Rec, which will generate electricity from solid waste.
