Operation DesertStorm Part 2
30/Aug/2006: Did you know that Operation DesertStorm Part 2 is already on? So far it has claimed 130 lives and displaced tens of thousands!
Before you start making Anti-George Bush posters, this is a story about heavy rains and floods in a desert!
There’s this place called Barmer in Rajhastan, India, which is bang in the middle of a desert. It features the mandatory sand dunes, dry weather, sandstorms and all other desert trappings.
Just last week it was hit by so much rain that the desert started to look like a sea because the gypsum below the sandy surface did not allow the water to seep through. Many died, tens of thousands were displaced and families were uprooted, and dead cattle are still floating in the waters.
Reason it out: Could this be a normal occurrence? Or, is it an environmental disaster? The author’s vote goes to the latter but the final judgment is awaited.
