Sahara expanding at an alarming pace.
31/Aug/2006: Global Warming is affecting the Sahara Desert, and thus it is expanding at an alarming pace of 30 miles south per year. Desert is stretching and losing its Grasslands and vegetation at a very high rate.
The Desert is reported to be increasing its area every day.
Reports state "The atmosphere is warming up at higher rate in sub-tropical areas - 30º North and South." If the warming moves further by 2º or 3º, it would lead to the expansion of Sahara Desert towards the pole, which would add a few hundred miles to the desert"
Scientists have shown an alarming concern on this and stated, Africa might turn in to a desert some day. They are trying to identify the mechanisms that may pause the expansion or decrease the speed of expansion of the Sahara.
