India not affected by Global Warming.
31/Aug/2006: Scientists in India feel that Indian Climatic System is unaffected by global warming.
A prominent scientist pointed towards the data on cyclones for that last 115 years. "The highest number of cyclones that have hit the country in a same year is 10, in 1893, 1926 and 1930; and Six (6) in the past 20 years in 1992 and 1998" He stated at the inauguration of NCSTC sponsored workshop.
He also tried to explain the rain fall pattern; the highest recorded rainfall in the country was in 1917, with 1457.3 cm and lowest being 913 cm in 1918. The past 20 years doesn't show much of the changes in the data, the highest recorded during the period was in 1998 with 1288 cm and lowest stands at 939 cm in the year 2000; which is normal and doesn't indicate that Global Warming is affecting India.
According to him, developed nations are more responsible for global warming and advised them to put more efforts in order to undo the harmful effects. "Without hills we won't have any rains and groundwater levels are depleting day by day. This may lead to desertification of the available land." The scientist confessed.
He ruled out the statements of the scientist's world wide, which claimed global warming has affected India.
