Pennsylvania To Buy Green Electricity
31/Aug/2006: Pennsylvania is making the increased purchase by modifying its contract with Wayne-based Community Energy Inc., from which it had already been buying green electricity.
Pennsylvania, already the largest state purchaser of electricity from renewable sources, is doubling the amount it buys. The state government will now get one-fifth of its electricity from power plants driven by wind and water.
By doing so, Pennsylvania is creating reliable sources of affordable energy, cleaning the environment and providing jobs. As the supply is available. The marketplace for green electricity has grown.
The state will now buy 200,000 megawatt hours a year at a rate of 34 cents per kilowatt hour. Hydroelectric sources will generate 60 percent of the electricity and wind power will generate 40 percent.
