Think Bio-diesel is unfashionable? Think Again

31/Aug/2006: According to latest news reports China is working towards revolutionizing the Bio-Diesel sector. China has researched and produced a rare strain of rapeseed which is said to be highly disease resistant, has high oil content and most impressive of all can give the much needed boost to the Bio-Diesel industry.

The new rapeseed nicknamed 'Zhongyou-0361' is said to have an oil content of 54.72 percent and it is said that if the plant is grown on high altitude regions there is a 2% to 3% increase in oil content. This is a major stride for all of us whether it be China, US or Australia, as this discovery provides us an alternative resource to meet the market demand for renewable sources of energy.

China is said to have the highest output of rapeseed and looks like it is ready to meet the ever growing demands for bio-energy. As more and more people are looking for renewable and environmental friendly resources, China has surely found another niche.

Soaring oil prices coupled with the European Union's vigorous promotion of bio-diesel produced from rapeseed have given the needed push for rapeseed production and also, did we mention that rapeseed demands high prices approximately 822 US dollars per tonne, a giant leap from 711 US dollars at the end of last year.
